I came across this book and it details what the Mediterranean diet is and does. It has some great recipes in it I want to try. I love how it balances all food groups in a very yummy way. Diets are generally hard enough as it is, without the added stress of a medical need to lose weight. I really liked how this book expressed the importance of incorporating foods from all food groups. I’ve found issues with diets before that exclude bread or meats, so I like that this diet involves all groups. The recipes were easy to follow as well, and all seemed to include necessary preparation instructions. Known as the most healthiest and proven long-term beneficial diet out there, the Mediterranean diet is the best way to eat. This book gives you the history and an idea of how the diet works. What to eat, what not to, and the science behind why it may work so well. I have been slowly moving into the Mediterranean way of eating with proven results of weight loss and more energy. This a good start for anyone curious about what the Mediterranean diet is all about. I would definitely suggest this book and the diet for anyone looking to eat more healthily. This is what I would consider a beginner's cookbook. Many various recipes and all have tasted very good. Easy meals for a nonchef like me. I have to eat the Mediterranean diet for health reasons and this book complements other cookbooks I have on the subject to give me variations in my meals. This is definitely staying on my go-to shelf in the kitchen. The best part about this cookbook is that the recipes are all health-oriented and bolster nutritional value. I highly recommend this book if you are trying to step out of your comfort zone or even if you are new to the culinary arts as a whole. - 5.0 out of 5 stars from TOP 100 Amazon Reviewer -- So much more than a cookbook - a go-to guide for healthy eating. : I’m a fair cook, but since buying this book, I’ve learned more about how to choose, mix and prepare ingredients than I could have imagined. Recipes are easy to follow and presented in a logical order that makes preparation efficient, even to the point of indicating when mixing bowls and pans can be re-used. To be fair, most of the recipes take more than 30 minutes to prepare, and while most of the ingredients can be found at any grocery store, they aren’t items I already had in my pantry. After making about 15 of the dishes (many of them on multiple occasions) however, I now have most of the staples for the Mediterranean cooking readily available and use them regularly. And to my surprise, this book has done such a great job educating me, I’m now able to modify some of the recipes based on personal preferences! All but 1 of the dishes have ranged from good to great! I even forced myself to try some of the recipes that didn't sound appealing on paper and am so glad I did. The variety of recipes is impressive and I can't overstate how great this cookbook is! If you’re looking to change your diet, or for just a few great dishes, this book is a must-have! Excellent book! (There are a few misses but only a few) I became interested in the Mediterranean diet for health reasons and I appreciate the author’s thorough explanation of the health benefits at the beginning of the book. Another big plus is that the recipes are written for a family so you can make just the right amount of food and it’s easy to double the recipe if you want to. I also appreciate all the nutritional information for each serving so I can track my daily calorie count. It is not full of technical medical terms that you need a dictionary to look up. It includes excellent nutritional information. My first discussion with my nutritionist was a surprise, when I told her I was using this book as a guide she told me she does that as well. Great book to help me transfer to a healthier lifestyle and hopefully reverse serious health problems. Recommend this book for its easy to follow instructions, explanations, menus, and information.
